
150 Trade Unions Strike against Budget from mid-night today
Several Government, semi-government and private sector Trade Unions including those connected to transport and health are preparing for a strike from mid-night today.
Trade Union Collective’s convener Saman Ratnapriya told the strike in protest of over several issues including the pruning of Government employees’ pension, non-incorporation of the allowance of the ten-thousand-rupee increase to the basic salary and making ‘Man Power’ employees permanent.
Saturdays Meeting between Representatives of many trade unions and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was unsuccessful.
Meanwhile issuing a communiqué yesterday the Prime Minister’s office said that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is scheduled to make a statement in parliament today clarifying the Government’s stand with regard to trade union demands.The communiqué said that the Prime Minister would apprise the House about the discussions held with trade union representatives.
