“Ms. Marvel” team talk that finale reveal
(FASTNEWS | UNITED STATES) – This past week’s finale of the Marvel Studios series “Ms. Marvel” on Disney+ included a reveal that has raised obvious questions about the future of the MCU.
The reveal in the finale takes place during a scene in which it revealed that the show’s leading lady Kamala Khan has different genetic makeup than most humans. It revealed her DNA has a ‘mutation’, a riff of the “X-Men” animated series theme plays much as it did in the “Doctor Strange” sequel during its X-Men reveal.
The brief exchange marks the first acknowledgment of mutants in MCU and confirms that Khan is one of them and not an Inhuman as she is in the comics.
Sana Amanat, who created the character with G. Willlow Wilson, tells Empire their original goal with the character was to make her a Mutant but it was Marvel’s call to make her an Inhuman instead in the comics.
Does that definitely make her a mutant here? Amanat says: “Is she a mutant, question mark? I don’t know. I don’t know, guys! All I know is that we use the word ‘mutation’, and that’s all I can say.”
Speaking about the episode’s reveal, directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah say they didn’t know about the moment until they got the script and instructions from Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige.
Arbi says: “That was the best-kept secret of the whole show. We didn’t even know about it until we suddenly had a script. So, when we had it, we asked, ‘What’s that about? What’s going to happen?’ And Kevin Feige would say, ‘Just shoot this, put the little music on and that’s that. Should you be part of the future of Ms. Marvel, then you’ll know a little bit more.’”
Writer Bisha K. Ali revealed to THR it was the writer’s room who pitched the idea to Feige who approved. The six-episode Disney+ series made several significant changes to the character’s mythos, so such a change isn’t out of line.
Arbi and Fallah also confirmed it was “The Marvels” director Nia DeCosta who directed the post-credits scene involving Carol Danvers (Brie Larson).
