Disney+ develops live action “Eragon” series

(FASTNEWS | AMERICA) – A live-action “Eragon” TV series, based on Christopher Paolini’s ‘Inheritance Cycle’ young adult novel series that began in 2002, is reportedly in very early development at the Disney+ service.

Paolini will serve as co-writer on the series which follows a farm boy named Eragon who discovers an egg that hatches into a dragon he names Saphira.

Through their bond and the help of his mentor Brom, Eragon learns to be a Dragon Rider. Eragon and Saphira set out to defeat evil king Galbatorix and free the land of Alagaesia from his tyranny.

Bert Salke will executive produce for 20th Television. “Eragon” is the title of the first of four books in the series which has sold over 41 million copies worldwide.

The property was previously adapted into the widely panned 2006 fantasy film starring Ed Speelers in the title role along with Rachel Weisz and Jeremy Irons in supporting roles. That film grossed approximately $250 million from a reported budget of $100 million.
