Will Ferrell has responded to claims that a character in Zoolander 2 is an “offensive representation” of a transgender person.
The actor told News beat ,that he hasn’t seen the finished film but thought the role, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, fitted the tone of the production.
“We are making fun of a bunch of different things,” Ferrell said.
A petition to boycott the film, was created after Cumberbatch’s character was revealed during a trailer clip.
But Ferrell claims the story line is in keeping with the original storyline, which parodies the fashion industry.
He adds: “In terms of reading the script, [there’s] that feeling, that world [in which] the movie is established, is so heightened and over the top.”
