India Celebrates 67th Republican Day

India is celebrating its 67th Republic Day on Tuesday (Today 26th) displaying  its latest weapons at a military parade in the capital, Delhi.

Thousands of people lined up at Rajpath (King’s Avenue) to watch the colorful parade. Republic Day also showcased the nation’s rich cultural heritage.

As several extremist groups have called for a boycott of the celebrations ,security has been tightened in New Delhi and in other parts of the country including the north-east where.

At the parade venue in New Delhi, anti-aircraft guns and the National Security Guard’s sharpshooters were deployed at various places

As part of massive security arrangements,around 50,000 security personnel, including 15,000 from the paramilitary, have been deployed across the city .

The Indian President and the Prime Minister attended the show with the chief guest French President Francois Hollande.

President Pranab Mukherjee unfurled the Indian flag and took the salute.

A 76-member French Army contingent led by a French military band comprising 48 musicians, marched at Rajpath and presented a ceremonial salute to the President of India.
