PM calls for Report on Islandwide Power Failure

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has requested the Power and Renewable Energy Ministry to submit a report to him on the Island-wide power failure that lasted for more than, 2 hours yesterday evening.

The Island experienced a similar power black out few months back and the Prime Minister has ordered the investigations to examine any possible linkages among two incidents.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Power and Renewable Energy- Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has also ordered to submit an internal and external report to him about the sudden power failure.

Ministry sources claim that an internal committee comprising Ceylon Electricity Board officials and an external committee with technical experts will be appointed to look into the matter and submit relevant reports.

The islandwide blackout was a result of a technical error in the high voltage power line between Laxapana power station and Kolonnawa via Polpitiya, Upapola, told the CEB.

If these post mortem reports aim at preventing such sudden power failures in future is welcomed.
