1.46 Trillion Loans obtained by Mahinda Regime Came to Light after 1 year
Minister of Finance, Ravi Karunanayake disclosed that the previous regime has obtained 1.46 Trillion rupees of loan, which was detected after one year. In addition 5.4 billion has to be repaid by Samurdhi Ministry,but no detailed accounts available. Sixty percent of this loan is from foreign countries. We have to pay back these loans along with interest.
IMF, which has close rapport on loans with Srilanka doesn’t know anything about this loan.
We have intimated this matter to the IMF and requested to send a tracing committee to Srilanka.As a responsible Government, we can’t repudiate signed contract agreements with foreign countries, he said
Therefore, we have to take steps to repay these loans without burdening the public. Rajapakshe Regime submitted several Cabinet papers at the eleventh hour and obtained loans without following laid down Procedures.
Former minister of Finance, Mahinda , former Minister of Economic Development, Basil, Defence Secy , Gotha, MP Namal Rajapakshe, former Governor of Central Bak, Ajith Cabarial an former Secretary to Treasury, P.B.Jeyasundara should take full responsibility for this shortcomings.Frauds caused by the previous regime should be disclosed to the people of this country and abroad.
