Five charred bodies were found in a burnt van on Friday, 11th March 2016. Police investigated this murder. They commenced investigation with the number plate of the Van and then proceeded with identifying the charred bodies. They were able to identify “Navy Kapila” who wore a chain with the help of his wife. Thereafter they examined telephone conversations navy Kapila had with the people on that fate full day. They traced last call was given to a trader. On learning that the police was trailing him, he disappeared from Dangottuwa .They went to arrest him but he was not there in Dangotttuwa. In the meantime , he went and surrendered at Pannala Police Station. Police took him into their custody and interrogated him. He spilled the beans stating that the Navy Kapila was demanding Kappam and monthly he pays him Rs30,000 to Rs40,000. Just a day before his murder, Navy Kapila demanded Kappam of Rs70,000 from him. He couldn’t manage to meet his demand and decided to get rid of him. He planned to finish this menace with the help of his friend Chaminda. He instigated one Manju to take Kappam group for a liquor party on the way to collect Kappam of Rs 70,000. During the party as planned sleeping tablets were dissolved in liquor and served. When they feel drowsy and wanted to go to the toilet, murderer in waiting with an iron rod hit them one by one and killed all five in the group. In order to avoid their cry being heard by outsiders, they kept the radio tuned in full sound, revealed trader. Seven teams of the police were detailed to do the investigation.
