100 Members of Parliament Own Liquor Bars

During the year 1994, when Chandrika governed this country, each member of Parliament was given 5  beer licences and 3 other liquor licences.Almost all MPs of the Government and as well as the opposition  made use of this opportunity  and obtained liquor licences.

It has been reported that one hundred  members of Parliament  from Governing and opposition parties obtained liquor licence and maintaining  liquor bars in the country. They obtained their liquor licences in the name of  their close relatives (proxies).  Average monthly profit computed to be Rs 20 lkhs per month.

Two popular politicians from Kurunegala District, own 10 bars each. In the name of a Kalutara Politician’s wife two liquor bars are maintained.

Further, 50 members of Parliament own fuel refilling stations.  Politicians  are a privileged lot?
