CCTV Footage in Colombo to Detect Traffic Volations from Today
Police say traffic violations within the Colombo city limits will be monitored through CCTV footage from today.
Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunesekera said, action will be taken against motorists who are found violating traffic laws.
He said arresting and prosectution of motorists violating traffic laws will be intensified from today
The Spokesman added fines will be imposed against drivers violating traffic laws, if captured via CCTV footage even without spot checks by policemen.
105 CCTV cameras will be used in this programme within Colombo.
ASP Gunasekara said the programme will alleviate room for conflicts in instances of traffic violations.
The internationally recognized system is being introduced in the island for the first time.
