Granting 818 Acres of Land For Sampur Power Plant TNA Protests

The Tamil National Alliance has opposed a move by the government to grant 818 acres of land for the Sampur thermal power plant.

Opposition leader R Sampanthan said the party will work to regain all land lost by the general public, including at Sampur.

Speaking at a media briefing held in Kopay, the Opposition leader said he hopes to hold a discussion over the matter with the government in the near future.

R Sampanthan accused successive governments of having acted in an authoritarian manner when taking over land in the North East for state purposes.

Opposition leader R Sampanthan also said it is an anti-democratic act to change Ministers of the Northern Provincial Council when they are not found guilty.

However, R Sampanthan said the TNA will not oppose punishing those found guilty of being involved in illegal acts, if investigations prove so.
