Bakery Products Prices go up From 2nd May 2016
In one side President and Prime Minister calling press conferences and announce that they would not
allow proposed 15% VAT increase burden the poor public and exempted electricity, medicine and water
like services.
On the other side, All Ceylon Bakery owners Union National Convener Asela Sampath said in a press
conference that they have decided to increase prices of bakery products as from 2nd May 2016, on which
date new 15% VAT increase comes into effect.
They were informed of the tax increase for short eats and they propose to increase the prices in
accordance with it.
As from 2nd may 2016 prices will go up by Rs5, Rs10 and Rs15, he said. Despite assurances given by the
President and Prime Minister that the poor would not get affected by the 15% VAT increase, price
increases announced by Bakery owners.
