As Mahinda Undermines Leadership of SLFP, UPFA Refrain From Inviting Him For May Day
The UPFA has decided against inviting former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the SLFP May Day rally at Galle, as he continues to undermines the SLFP leadership and the party, said UPFA General Secretary, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Mahinda Amaraweera. He further said that SLFP did not invite party members individually for the May Day rally but given them various duties in connection with the rally. They were asked to bring as many supporters as possible to the main rally. But constituent partners of the UPFA have been invited. As Mr. Rajapaksa is a former President cum former party leader and a patron of the SLFP , we sent him an e-mail and a fax inviting him to the May Day rally. I wanted to meet him and hand over the invitation personally out of respect. But I have now decided not to do so as it seems that there is no end to disparaging remarks and insinuations on the SLFP leadership, he said.
He alleged that Mr. Rajapaksa stooped down to the level of instigating former Pradeshiya Sabha chairmen to insult the party and instrumental for the division of the party.
Minister Amaraweera vowed that he would bring 124 bus load of SLFP supporters from Hambantota for the SLFP rally in Galle. Referring to 2015 SLFP May Day rally held at Hyde Park, Colombo, he said he could not find supporters to fill 4 buses from Hambantota then.
President Maithree’s attitude towards SLFP splinter group led by Mahinda appears to have been hardened from soft pedaling to stern action . Followed by May Day, President contemplates action against them.
