Mattala Airport to be Privatized

Mattala airport was built  at a total cost of US $ 209 million. Out of  this amount , US $ 190 was obtained as a  loan from China. This  airport was inaugurate in a hurry in March 2003.

Loan repayment installment has been paid from the revenue earned at the BIA. Mattala airport was a white elephant , it was widely criticized. Further, it was running at a loss.

The Government is in the right direction in identifying loss incurring institutions and reviving it.

Now the Government has taken a decision to privatize Mattala Airport   before the end of the year, revealed  Ministry of Civil Aviation.
