Minister of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure Harin Fernando speaking to the BBC said, the increase in telecommunication charges as a result of increase in Value Added Tax increase will not have much affect on the public. The VAT increase was a necessary move taking into consideration the country’s economic status.
However, Sri Lanka is the only country where telecommunication charges are affordable.
The Minister added the people will witness positive results in future due to the governments long sited and long term plans.
