Thayudeen Murder: DIG Anura Senanayake Dodges CID

CID summoned former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), then in charge of Western Province at the time of Wasim Thayudeen’s death to interrogate and record his statement in connection with the death of Thayudeen. He was interrogated and his statement recorded for two days continuously. He spilled the beans to a certain extent, it is reported. At this juncture, CID wanted to cross check certain facts with his subordinate police officers functioned under him. Hence, those policemen who worked under Anura were asked to come to the CID in the morning on Friday. After recording their statement, CID wanted to prepare a dossier prior to arrest him and produce before the Colombo Magistrate. Anura appears to have premonition or learnt, that he would be arrested if he returns to the CID on Friday evening, chosen to disappear from his Colombo residence along with his family. Along with him the entire family said to have gone out of Colombo to a Devalaya on Friday evening seeking blessings of the gods to save him.
But, CID was waiting for him to return on Friday evening for recording his statement. But he didn’t turn up. When contacted, he has told the CID that on an urgent and important matter, he has gone out of Colombo along with his friends and unable to report at CID. CID said to have launched a search operation for Anura Senanayake , former DIG
