Unauthorized Buildings Main Reason for Flooding – Champika

As houses and temporary structures built by the side of canals taking rain water to the Kelani river caused flood. Apart from houses and temporary structures there are  about 600 factories built and operating by the side of Kelani river. Further, 50% of   marshy  land was filled and  buildings  put up on top of it.When the canals blocked, there is no way of water flow. Hence, this flood situation . This is a man made disaster. In Colombo itself, 150,000 were displaced and 30,000 families  affected. This was revealed by the Minister of Mega Polis, Champika Ranawakka.
