The murder of Wasim Thajudeen is well known to every one in Srilanka. The burnt remains of Wasim Thajudeen was recovered from a motor vehicle on a road in close proximity to the Narahenpita Shalika grounds on 17th May, 2012.
Because of certain politician reported to have involved in this murder, murder was shown to the world as an accident. After the change in regime, all matters raised and the court declared it was not an accident but murder. Top men in the police said to have assisted assailants in concealing the facts of murder then. However, SP Sumith Champika Perera who had served as OIC of the CID Narahenpita Police and former Western Province Senior DIG Anura Senanayake were arrested by the CID and are being held in remand prison. As former IGP Illankakone didn’t take appropriate police action then.He can no longer evade his involvement in the incident, Politicians and Civil Organisation Representatives said. Hence , former IGP N.K. Illangakoon should also be arrested in connection with the murder of rugby payer Wasim Thajudeen, they stressed.
