Public Opinion on New Constitution Report to PM

The report compiled by the Committee appointed to gather public opinion and suggestions on the formation of a new Constitution has been handed over to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The report was handed over by Chairman Attorney Lal Wijenayake at the Temple Trees yesterday. The committee obtained opinions and suggestions in verbal and in written form from the public across the island.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said the committee was able to obtain the views and suggestions of the public in a short period of time.

The Prime Minister said those who were unable to voice their opinion before the Public Representations Committee can send in their written representations to the steering committee.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said the new Constitution will be drafted after a consensus is reached.

The report will be officially handed over to the public during a media briefing this evening.

The report will then be handed over to President Maithripala Sirisena on the 7th of June while it will also be given to religious leaders. Lal Wijenayake added the report can be viewed by logging on to www.yourconstitution.
