WHO Reports That Srilanka Took 4 th Place in Suicides

Health Ministry has quoted World Health Organization’s report on suicides and said that Srilanka took the 4 th place in the World. Research found that the suicide rate was in accordance with respective countries. It is generally 11 % per 100,000 people. But Srilanka is concerned it is 28.8 % per 100,000 people.In country’s population 50% are addicted to liquor and drugs, which induce them to commit suicide, Health Ministry pointed out. In Srilankan population one out of 10 people is affected by some kind of mental disease and only 205 of them are obtaining treatment, said Health Minister.
