Main Suspect in Alleged kidney Racket Arrested in India

The Colombo Crimes Division yesterday informed Court that the main suspect wanted in connection with the investigations into a kidney racket involving Indians and Sri Lankans had been arrested by Indian police in Delhi. The CCD said Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya that they were conducting investigations to ascertain whether seven Indians arrested in Sri Lanka have been involved in the kidney racket with the connivance of the main suspect arrested in India.
The CCD further told Court that a Deputy Solicitor General representing the Attorney General’s Department would appear in Court on the next hearing date.
The CCD further informed Court they seized 1,100 documents from the possession of the eight suspects and these documents will be sent to India through Interpol.
The seven Indians allegedly involved in a kidney racket involving Indians and Sri Lankans were ordered to be further remanded till June 22.
The suspects were arrested for overstaying their visas while staying in an apartment at Wellawatte on March 3.
ASP Chandrasekara, Chief Inspector Neville de Silva, the OIC of CCD and Inspector Eranga Fernando appeared for the prosecution.
