Prime Minister’s Choice for CB governor is Charitha Ratwatte
The president and the PM convened a special meeting with Central Bank staff yesterday and to discuss the appointment of a governor for the CB.
Several names have come up to succeed Mahendran, including Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, a deputy governor, as well as Dr. Lalith Samaraweera and Dinesh Weerakkody.
Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has proposed President Maithripala Sirsiena to appoint Charitha Ratwatte as the Central Bank governor, if Arjun Mahendran cannot be given a service extension.
In the meantime ,the president said in Girandurukotte yesterday that Mahendran would retire tomorrow, and that a new governor would be appointed within days.
