Tenure of 23 Local Government Institutions to Conclude Today

The tenure of 23 Local Government Institutions is due to conclude today.

President Maithripala Sirisena took measures to extend the period of Local Government Institutions although the tenures were scheduled to conclude at a previous date.

Accordingly, the tenure of Municipal Councils in Colombo, Dehiwela – Mount Lavinia and Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte is due to conclude today.

Furthermore, the tenure of Municipal Councils in Kolonnawa, Gampaha, Negombo, Kurunegala, Kandy, Galle, Matara, and Hambantota are scheduled to conclude today.

The tenures of Municipal Councils in Ratnapura, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Anuradhapura and Kalmunai are also due to conclude.

Moreover, the tenure of Kundasale, Kadawathsathara, Gangawatakorala, Hambantota, Sooriya Wewa and the Kotikawaththe – Mulleriyawa Provincial Councils is scheduled to conclude today.

80 per cent of Local Government Institutions in the island have been dissolved thus far while the respective Local Government Institutions are currently carried out by Commissioners.
