The parliamentarian Bandula Gunawardena said, that the Joint Opposition will lodge a complaint with the Inter Parliamentary Union in Geneva, against the political vendetta carried out against Namal Rajapaksa by taking him into custody.
Addressing a press conference at the Vajirashrama Bauddha Madyasthanaya, Punchi Borella yesterday, summoned by the Joint Opposition’s Economic Research Committee, he said a complaint has not been made against Rajapaksa by any person who had given him money or any other party.
“But the JVP engaged in political deals was leveling unfounded charges against people driven by hatred and enmity. Rajapaksa had been arrested on a complaint by Wasantha Samarasinghe of the JVP alleging that Rajapaksa had misappropriated funds given for the development of rugby,” he said. Gunawardena said members of the Joint Opposition leading the anti-government campaign were being arrested on the compulsion of the JVP.
Bandula Gunawardena in the first instant said, that no one has made a complaint against Namal and then stated that complaint was made by by Wasantha Samarasinghe. A contradicting statement by him confuses the public. If the 70 Million money in tendered for the development of Rugby had been deposited in the institution concerned, no problem. But the problem is it has been deposited in a private account, which resulted in the arrest of Namal , observers says.
