The Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed a contempt of court case at the Supreme Court against UPFA MP Namal Rajapaksa on June 30.
The Commission informed court that Namal Rajapaksa had repeatedly ignored summons given to him to appear at the commission to obtain statements on ongoing investigations. The Commission argues that this action by Rajapaksa is a contempt of court under Article 20 (3) (a) of the Bribery Act. Bribery Commission Director General Dilrukshi Wickremesinghe today informed the details to the court and pointed out that only the Supreme Court has jurisdiction to hear such a case.
The contempt of court case against UPFA MP Namal Rajapaksa filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption was fixed for 3 rd August 2016 by the Supreme Court today.
The case was considered before a three member bench comprising of Chief Justice K. Sripavan and Supreme Court Justices Priyasath Dep and Buwaneka Aluvihare.
On application made by Namal Rajapaksa’s lawyers that they need to peruse the documents submitted to court by the Bribery commission. In response, the Bribery Commission handed over the documents to the defence.
