IGP Endorsed Latheef ’s Appointment as STF Commandant

Special Task Force veteran. Latheef has joined the Police force in 1979. He was a member of the first batch of the STF in 1984 after which he specialized in counter terrorism. He holds a masters degree in Human Rights from the Colombo University and has completed his academic training at the Fort McNair University in the United States.
Although police commission made the appointment of Latheef as the Commandant of the Special Task Force, the IGP was holding the appointment. In today’s police commission meeting, where IGP attended, the Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara ratified the appointment of Senior DIG M.R. Latheef as the Commandant of the Special Task Force. Latheef has been appointed as a Commandant of the STF with immediate effect by the IGP.
