Presidential Election Violence – Former Deputy Minister & 6 Others to be Indicted Today

A group of UNP supporters had planned and election meeting in support of Presidential Candidate Maithripala Sirisena on 5th January 2015.
A gang of persons who accrued at the sport had pulled down the decorations and fired gun shots killing one person and seriously injuring two others.
The person killed in the shorting was Dodangoda Sunil Perera alias Shantha Perera and the two seriously injured were  Karunadasa Weerasinghe and Mohamed Hussein Hashan.
Former Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara alias “Choka Malli’ and six others will be indicted before the Ratnapura High Court today by the Attorney General on nine counts including charges of murder and attempted murder.
The six others are Aruna Nilantha Jayasinghe, Vajira Darashana de Silva, Pathurm Dhanajaya alias “Pala”, Asoka Nairmal alias ‘Sajanthu’, Nilanka Pradeep and Ajith Malavi Gunaratne.
During the hearing of this case the Attorney General hopes to submit sixteen productions including 3 tapes consisting CCTV camera footage recorded at the site, mobile telephone call date and lead evidence of 59 witnesses.
