No Local Government Election Till June 2017

In a meeting held  yesterday in the Ministry , the State Minister of Finance Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said, considering the delimitation Commission report  election cannot be held till June 2017 . Further,  he said if election is  to be held before that it could be done on preferential voting system.

In the meantime NFF Muzzamil said that  the Local Government Election has already been 20 months  delayed  since the election  were first postponed.  The question is whether postponing the election further is appropriate for the  ”Good Governance”   Government , he questioned.

Meanwhile, there will be a discussion in the Department of  election with all party  representatives   to finalize electoral  delimitation Commission report and  amendment to the local government election laws today (12).
