Signing of collective agreement today is Doubtful?
Trade unions in the estate sector have rejected the draft collective agreement prepared by the planters association. Trade unions in unison said, that if six days work guarantee is not agreed and to accommodate certain amendments not accepted, they will abstain from signing the agreement today. Cancelling 300 days’ work in the year and including 250 days’ work in place in the new draft collective agreement is not acceptable to the trade unions. Hence, 13 trade unions Joint Committee Secretary S.Ramanathan said, that they would reject proposed collective agreement. Planters union suggested with the daily wage of Rs.730, three days’ work could be provided. As a new collective agreement badly affects the rights of the plantation workers they totally reject the new collective agreement, he concluded.
