Supreme Court Determines Charges Can be Filed Against Tiran

The Attorney General filed charges at the Colombo High Court filed against Former Parliamentarian Tiran Alles on seven counts including the misuse of 200 million rupees given to the Reconstruction and Development Agency in order to provide relief to those affected by the Tsunami in the North-Eastern Province. Earlier, UPFA MP Tiran Alles filed a Fundamental Rights petition calling for the prevention of his arrest to which the Supreme Court consented.
The Lawyer appeared for  Tiran argued before the High Court as the case is pending before the Supreme Court , charge sheet cannot be issued by the High Court. After considering submissions made by the Attorney General and the Defence Lawyer, the Colombo High Court requested the Supreme Court for its interpretation whether charges can be filed against Tiran Alles while an order has been issued against his arrest.
The Supreme Court today ordered the Colombo High Court to promptly hand over the charge sheet filed by the Attorney General at the High Court to  Tiran Alles.
