Kalpitiya OIC Transferred to Puttalam

The Officer in Charge of the Kalpitiya Police Station has been transferred to the Puttalam Police Station with immediate effect.  The transfer was issued by the Puttalam Deputy Inspector General of Police on orders of the Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara.

A Police Inspector of the Wanathawilluwa Police has been appointed the Acting OIC of the Kalpitiya Police.

A group of 2,000 fishermen participated in a protest behaving in an unruly manner.

The group of fishermen demanded the government to prevent fishing with the use of illegal equipment and nets.  Around 20 persons sustained injuries during clashes during protests.

The protest that continued to yesterday disrupted traffic along the Kalpitiya-Puttalam main road.
