Government to Enhance Women Representation in Parliament Through Nomination

Most  Srilankan  women show reluctance towards standing for elections and  face  immense challenges to win elections.  Women have to face more difficulties during  election campaign. Hence,    very few of them stand for election are able to win and enter  Parliament, Provincial Councils and Local Councils , Higher Education and Highways Minister Lakshman Kiriella said.

The government has paid attention towards a scheme which will enable women to gain nomination to these bodies  in future.

Kiriella was addressing the third session of the Student Parliament of the Kandy Girls High School on October 24.
