Eye Affected Disabled Soldier During Protest to be Flown Abroad for Special Treatment

 Despite Government assurance of pension, several disabled tri-forces and police personnel staged a protesting march near the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo on November 7 demanding pension benefits to those who counted less than 12 years service. When they tried to enter residential Secretariat by force, they were met with tear gas and water cannons.

During the incident a retired disabled lance corporal YKDN Mahiraj sustained an eye injury. He was under the care of specialist doctors from the Colombo Eye Hospital and the Military Hospital.

On consultant’s recommendation, he is to be flown abroad  for special treatment at Army expenses, Military Spokesman Brigadier A.W.M.P Roshan Seneviratne  said.
