President Maithripala Sirisena Speaking at the President’s Awards for Scientific Publication in Battaramulla yesterday has requested scientists and researchers to focus their work on research that could address the pressing needs of the country.
President Sirisena said scientists and researchers have a greater degree of responsibility to find solutions to the problems in the society and ensure development, even though the tradition in the country has been to assign responsibility to political authorities.
Though research studies have been under taken for more than 20 years findings on the kidney disease are not yet finalized, he said.
The Head of State appreciated interest shown by the local scholars to find a solution to prevent the disease.
