Is the internet Tax Increase is to Satisfy the Need of the Telephone Operators?

In a press conference held in the Finance Ministry yesterday (24), in reply to a question raised by a journalist that the public is compelled to pay Rs 50 as tax for every Rs100 data, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said, that telephone operators in the country has complained, apart from using telephone, most of the people are now using Viber and whatsapp depriving their revenue.

Considering their plight and as in other countries to bring it to equal level increase was done. Further , he said increase is not a big amount and similar tax was imposed earlier and justified it.

People elected them to parliament to satisfy the need of the companies or the public is a thousand dollar question asked by affected consumers from Ravi?
