Karuna Seeks Bail
Former Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthi Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman was taken into custody yesterday in connection with the alleged misuse of a state vehicle from January 2015 to August 2016. He was produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court and remanded until 7th December 2016.
Karuna’s lawyers pleaded that he had been in communication with the Presidential Secretariat on the handing over of the vehicle at the time of his arrest and he faces threat to his life in prison.
He filed a motion at the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court seeking bail under special circumstances.
The Magistrate reserved the order on releasing Karuna on bail for Monday.
