When the rugger player Mohammed Wasim Thajudeen Murder case was taken up for hearing before Additional Colombo Magistrate Rasika Mallawarachchi, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday informed the Court that a special investigation will be launched to establish facts about a VIP vehicle which is said to have followed the vehicle of Thajudeen on the day he was brutally murdered in Narahenpita.
Further the CID informed the Court that important information has been received regarding this vehicle, which had followed the ill-fated vehicle in which Thajudeen’s charred body had been discovered.
Who was in that vehicle? Did the group inside that vehicle assault Thajudeen before he was murdered and put him back in the vehicle and set fire to it? Answers to these questions could be found only after an investigation , CID said. In addition investigations will be carried out into telephone calls which are alleged to have originated from the Presidential Secretariat immediately before, and at the time that Thajudeen was murdered.
Former Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Western Province Anura Senanayake and former Officer-In-Charge of the Crimes Division of the Narahenpita Police Sumith Champika Perera, who are prime suspects linked to Thajudeen’s killing were brought to Court yesterday by prison officials, and they were remanded until 26th of December .
The Magistrate ordered the CID to report on its progress in investigations to Court on that day.
