Mahinda Breaths Fire in Granting Powers to Chief Ministers

Former President cum the Kurunegala District MP, Mahinda Rajapaksa  addressing a meeting said, that  the Government is trying to please  the Tamils through Constitutional Reforms  thereby  antagonising  Sinhalese . In recent weeks,   TNA was debating  to demand  reduction of powers vested with the Governors .  They wanted more powers to Chief Ministers.  Governors in Provincial  Council  execute the powers  given by the President.  Indian  Governors  can dissolve  State Law Assembly of any state in India. But in Srilanka , it cannot be done . This is dangerous to our  unitary state concept, he concluded.

In recent weeks ,   Joint Opposition has accelerated its campaign  against the Constitutional reforms to be introduced.  JO projected this as an attempt    to fulfil the aspiration of the Tamil. It is relevant to mention here  that Maithri was able to defeat Mahinda in 2015 Presidential Election  with the help  of Tamils cum  minorities and assumed office as President .
