Government Keeps a Gang of Thugs – Jo

In a press conference held on Wednesday (11) at N.M.Perera Center in Borella, Joint Opposition Dallas Alahaperuma accused the government of setting a gang of thugs equipped with swords, knives and baton poles to attack innocent public and the Buddhist monks participated in the peaceful protest demonstration at Hambantota. Although the Prime Minister assured Mahanayake Thero on 6 th that there won’t be any problem for any one protesting peacefully at Hambantota.

Contrary to Prime Minister’s promise they Police attacked peaceful demonstration carried out by the public and 600 Buddhist monks including Anunayake Theros. First of all police blocked our way through the main road, and then we proceeded through by roads. Those by roads leading to Magampura were also blocked by police. They used water guns and tear gas to disperse demonstrators. In ensuing violence 6 were wounded. Followed by this in the first instance 6 were arrested. There after 60 were identified and arrested. If they display the video clippings in the private media, people will know who started the violence, Dallas said.
