Mansur A. Cader was appointed as the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Party Chairman Basheer Segu Dawood said yesterday.
He added that Cader was the former Secretary of the High Command in 2015.
Dawood added that the constitution of the SLMC has been amended and the position of the General Secretary has been scrapped off from the new constitution, and henceforth the position of the General Secretary will be known as Secretary.
Cader replaced Hasan Ali who was the former General Secretary of the SLMC. A year ago a feud ensued between Ali and SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem. Ali reportedly had a difference of opinion with Hakeem and therefore, did not attend the SLMC conventions and other SLMC related events last year. As a result two of Ali’s main functions were removed from his purview.
It was reported that Ali had returned to his chair earlier this year, with the aim of settling the row amicably. Reports circulated that SLMC Delegates’ Conference is expected to take place in February this year, at which point the warring duo are expected to settle their differences on amicable terms. However, in a conversation with Ceylon Today Dawood did not specify whether the decision to replace Ali was taken at the Delegate Conference, instead opting to note that the constitution has been amended and that the secretary has been replaced.
