Prison Reform Committee Report to Parliament

Minister of Justice and Minister of Prison Reforms have jointly submitted a proposal  to the cabinet  seeking approval  to submit  first  report of the  prison reform committee to Parliament.  Recommendations made by the  Prison Reform Committee includes:-

01.Instead of serving prison sentence to detail them work  related to social services.

02.To allow those  who cannot pay fine  at once, instead of prison sentence allow them   to pay  fines  on  instalments .

03. To prevent misplacement of court case  records  pending  handing over it to High Courts.

04. Those who have been kept in remand without charges to be released on bond.

05. Regular prison visit by Magistrates.

06. To release remand prisoners  on merit basis, who are under bailable    offences.

07. To convert death sentence  to  life imprisonment.

08. To construct  new prisons .

 The committee has seriously considered  ways and means of  reducing  prison congestion  and made the above recommendations.
