Delay of LG Elections is a Violation of People’s Rights.

While addressing a media briefing in Kandy,  Chairman of Elections Mahinda Deshapriya said , that  the delay in the conduct of elections is a violation of people’s rights.

The Chairman of Elections added he has not been intimidated by any individual regarding  to the upcoming Local Government election.

 He  said the Elections Commission is not in favour of postponing an election, there was no need for the government to intimidate him.

He said it is the public that blames him for delaying the election, especially on Facebook and in the papers.

The Chairman said he did not mind as he expected the people to let out their anger.

However,  he said there was no issue on his end yet he was willing to take the blame.

The delay tarnishes the rights of the people, adding it affects the country. He said everyone has one vote, further reiterating the elections Commission is not willing to delay the election as that was not its stance, he concluded.
