Live cricket score, Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh, 2nd Test Day 1: Sri Lanka in control at 149/5 at Tea against Bangladesh

This second Test in Colombo will be 100th Test for Bangladesh and could very well prove to be the added boost that the team needs to get back into the series and find the leveller. Prior to the game, a big change was made already in the aftermath of Bangladesh’s 259 run loss in Galle in the opening Test. Mahmudullah has been dropped for the second Test leaving his place for the ODIs to follow in question. For now, the status remains that the legend and experienced player won’t be part of the decisive Test. Sri Lanka looked to be in good condition and form in the opening Test but their top order does leave some concerns which Bangladesh could do well to exploit.
Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh, 2nd Test Day 1 Live Score and Updates:
1442 hrs IST: TEA! Very good session for Sri Lanka after that rocky start in the morning. They’re on to 149/5 with Dickwella on 11 and Chandimal on 54. 79 runs in that session with single wicket lost
1439 hrs IST: Dickwella looks to sweep Mehedi but misses it completely. Tossed up from around the stumps but that’s an optimistic review as they get. Rightfully turned down as the ball was going way down the leg side.
1417 hrs IST: New man in for Sri Lanka is Dickwella
1415 hrs IST: GONE! Dhananjaya looked to pull Taijul but it didn’t rise as much as it should have, stays low and the Sri Lanka batsman plays all over it. Didn’t help that the ball skidded through and in the end hit middle and leg. Against the run of play that and Bangladesh have broken the 66-run stand
1406 hrs IST: FIFTY! Fifty for Dinesh Chandimal. He brings up his 12th Test fifty with a resolute show. 50 runs from 110 balls with three boundaries. Suffered early onslaught from Bangladesh bowling but has grown in confidence since
1400 hrs IST: GONE? Soft signal is not out as Dinesh Chandimal sweeps Taijul Islam and gets a top edge that is taken by Mehedi Hasan. Lovely take to slide forward, hands forward and then take it. Or that’s what the Bangladesh players are claiming. Tough call whether it carried before the bounce or after. TV umpire has another big call to make. And that stays not out. Cheers all around as Chandimal moves to 46 and Sri Lanka are 129/4
1324 hrs IST: Dinesh Chandimal is caught leg before by Shakib Al Hasan. REVIEW. Strides forward trying to defend the delivery which pitches on middle and leg stump. The ball is going on to miss the stumps and Chandimal survives. Original decision has been overturned. No way to be sure for TV umpire Erasmus that there was an inside edge to go for the bat-pad catch for first slip.
1245 hrs IST: Second session underway in Colombo. Dinesh Chandimal is joined by Dhananjaya de Silva in the middle. Subashis Roy and Shakib Al Hasan have the ball.
1203 hrs IST: LUNCH! Sri Lanka are 70/4 after the first session. It belonged entirely to Bangladesh from the word go. They’ve bowled with discipline and made the most of the help from the pitch
1201 hrs IST: GONE! Change in bowling does the trick for Bangladesh. Subashis comes on to bowl the final over before lunch. Angled delivery full on stumps and Gunaratne is caught pad-first. Plump in front. Doesn’t even wait for the umpire’s decision and finger to go up. He walks and Bangladesh strike on the stroke of the lunch break
1117 hrs IST: GONE! Mehedi Hasan gets his second. Upul Tharanga edges it and it is taken low by Soumya Sarkar at first slip. Tharanga looks to defend and play it down but the ball spins away and gets some extra bounce to eke an outside edge that is held on to with ease
1100 hrs IST: GONE! Kusal Mendis departs to Mehedi Hasan. Kusal lunges forward to play it early and before the ball could turn but this one maintains its line and Mushfiqur, behind the stumps, is quick to hold on and remove the bails in a flash. Mendis is long way forward and no need for a TV review.
1041 hrs IST: GONE! Karunaratne goes for an expansive drive on the up to Mustafizur but only manages to get an outside edge that goes flying to Mehedi Hasan at gully. That is very well taken by the Bangladesh spinner.
1039 hrs IST: First bowling change of the morning as Mehedi Hasan comes on to bowl. On the last ball of the over, he sees Tharanga leave confidently or was that a very nervous leave? Either way, it is very close to the stumps as keeper collects the ball into the gloves. Incredible how it didn’t bowl him out.
1016 hrs IST: Beautiful start for Bangladesh with the new ball. Both the bowlers getting the ball to beat the outside of the bat, getting some leg before shouts going and now Karunaratne survives. Gets an outside edge and the ball finds the small gap between second and third slip. Neat bowling to start things off
1005 hrs IST: Dimuth Kuranartne and Upul Tharanga come on out to bat and open the Sri Lanka innings. Subashis Roy and Mustafizur Rahman have the ball
1001 hrs IST: TEAMS:

1000 hrs IST: TOSS: Sri Lanka have won the toss and have opted to bat first
1000 hrs IST: Hello and good morning for the second Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Sri Lanka are looking to build on their massive 259 run win in Galle and ensure a series whitewash. On the other hand, Bangladesh would look to level matters at a ground which has over the past produced results and not gone on to be a draw-friendly pitch. Will that stay the same? We’d find out. Meanwhile, reasons to celebrate for Bangladesh administrators with the country playing their 100th Test match.
