Shashank Manohar Resigns as Chairman of International Cricket Council

Shashank Manohar has resigned as chairman of the International Cricket Council chairman with immediate effect. (Why Shashank Manohar resigned as ICC chairman)

Manohar, who had stepped down as BCCI president last year, was elected unopposed as the first independent chairman of the ICC in May last year for a two-year term. The Vidharbha cricket strongman was leading an effort to decentralise the power held by BCCI, CA and ECB.

After Manohar had stepped down as BCCI boss, sources had told India Today that he left the coveted post as he believed the recommendations made by the RM Lodha panel were impossible to implement. He was succeeded as BCCI president by Anurag Thakur whose stubborn resistance to implement the Lodha reforms led to his sacking by the Supreme Court in January.

Manohar is a prominent Indian lawyer who served as BCCI president for the first time from 2008-2011. Following the death of Jagmohan Dalmiya, Manohar was re-elected as the BCCI president in October 2015.

To, David Richardson,Chief Executive, ICC.

Dear David,

I was elected unopposed as the first independent Chairman of ICC last year.

I have tried to do my best and have tried to be fair and impartial in deciding matters in the functioning of the Board and in matters related to Member Boards along with the able support of all Directors.

However, for personal reasons it is not possible for me to hold the august office of ICC Chairman and hence I am tendering my resignation as Chairman with immediate effect.

I take this opportunity to thank all the Directors, the Management and staff of ICC for supporting me wholeheartedly.I wish ICC all the very best and hope it achieves greater heights in future.
