50 New CWE Branches Island Wide – Rishad

Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen  yesterday participated in the Provincial Cooperative Ministers  Conference  held at the BMICH yesterday(20). At this conference Minister said thus: ’’  When Prime Minister Ranil  Wickramasinghe handed over the CWE to me,  it was in a depleted  unredeemable condition. When I took over,  I  did a  deep study to find out the main cause  for the loss. From the study I was able to identify most of the reasons for the loss viz:
  1. None of the CWE branches was computerized.
  2. Non  availability  of permanent storage facilities .
  3. Officers in charge did not differentiate and identified the item, which has more sale and less sale.
  4. Non availability of transport facilities.
  5. Non accounting for a long period.
  6. Non availability of CCTV cameras.
I have addressed  all the above issues step by step and was able to convert  unredeemable loss incurring  CWE  into a  profit making venture.
Now  the CWE is serving poor as well as rich people .  To ensure availability of essential items we have imposed control prices on 25 items.
On the 28th of this month 50 new CWE branches will be declared open island wide with the participation of the  President and the Prime Minister.  My target is to increase CWE branches in the island to 500 before the end of December 2017 . After achieving  this  target,   there  won’t be any new CWE branches. Instead Cope city will be developed island wide’’.
Provincial Cooperative Ministers and other VIPs of the Cooperative moment in the island participated at this conference.
