Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen in company with Minister of Provincial Council and Local Government Faizer Mustafa and Rural Economy Deputy Minister Ameer Ali have made an inspection visit to Kinniya to assess the current dengue situation in the district.
A high level meeting to review dengue eradication efforts and precaution taken was held in the Kinniya public library this morning. Chief Minister of Eastern Province Hafiz Nazeer Ahamed, MP Abdul Mahroof, Senior officers of the district including Police and Arm forces attended this meeting. At this meeting Rishad said thus: ‘’ Last week we visited this area and took steps to control dengue. I have briefed the President and Prime Minister about the dangerous situation in Kinniya . As promised we made available 2 containers and other assistance . I am thankful to Faizer Mustafa, who accompanied me in this trip on my invitation. He has come forward to remove garbage, waste, rubbish and to pay to doctors, cleaning staff. In addition he agreed to provide smoke pumps and sewerage pulling stringers . In order to upgrade Kinniya hospital we have taken steps to bring it under the Central Government. Now the hospital is coming under the Provincial Council. I appeal to the Chief Minister of the Eastern Province, who is here with us to release Kinniya hospital to the Central Government . This will make things easy. Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratna has assured me to upgrade this hospital on a permanent building. I will work hard to achieve this, he concluded’’. Chief Minister Habeer Nasse Ahamed too addressed this meeting. Followed by this, Ministerial team visited Kinniya as well as Thopur hospital and enquired about the well being of the Dengue patients.
