President’s Tall Order to Faizer to Conduct LG Election Promptly

Followed by  President Maitripala Sirisena’s  direction to conduct Local Government Election without further delay,  Local Government and Provincial Councils Minister Faizer Musthapha  is preparing to  call for the immediate amendments of current laws governing such elections to sort out some technical issues. Accordingly, more than 50 shortcomings in the prevailing laws pointed out by the Election Commission  will be rectified by introducing a fresh legislation in Parliament soon.

Anomalies in previous delimitation process  have already been gazetted. It could be accesses by anyone in the Publication Bureau.

There are 335 local bodies in the country- Municipal Councils, Urban Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas.
