Compulsory Workers Insurance & Compensation to Workers in Sites

Followed by several accidents which have taken place in sites and institutions, leaving victims not adequately compensated, Minister of Labour and Trade Union Relations W.D.J Seneviratne said, that life insurance will be made compulsory for private institutions and sites with over 10 workers.

Now a  maximum compensation of Rs 550,000 is   paid upon the death of a worker owing to an accident.

However, he added that this would be doubled through an amendment.
