CEB Unions Poised to Strike

Thirty trade unions attached to the CEB have decided to launch a lightning strike after 1st May 2017, until a lasting solution is provided to their salary issue.
Convener of the CEB Trade Union Alliance Ranjan Jayalal said, that following the successful trade union action by the CEB trade unions an employee witch hunt has begun within the CEB. “The management of the CEB is providing some of our members with transfers. They are not paid overtime. An employee witch hunt is taking place. This is happening at the Jayewardenepura call centre. The reason for all this is our struggle to rectify salary anomalies. It is due to this that we decided to resort to a lightning, indefinite strike,” said Jayalal. Several CEB trade unions are opposed to the creation of a special salary system called the ‘E-Scale’ and the provision of a 70 to 125 percent salary hike for the Engineers Union of the CEB retrospectively from January 2015.
Minister of Power Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has said he had appointed a committee to study workers’ grievances.
