Japanese Technical Experts Next Week in SL on Meethotamulla Disaster

Japanese’s  Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held bilateral discussions with the visiting Sri Lankan Prime Minister last week on a wide range of issues. The  Meethotamulla garbage dump disaster occurred  as the Sri Lankan Prime Minister concluded his official  visit to Japan.
In a personal message to his Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday, Japanese’s  Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had said his country would extend its full support to Sri Lanka including a solution to the garage disposal issue. He had also expressed condolences to the victims of the Meethotamulla incident,  where a section of the garbage dump collapsed,killing 26 persons and damaging over400 houses.
A group of Japanese  technical experts will visit Sri Lanka next week, to analyse and ascertain  the cause  for the disaster  and recommend  recurrent  occurrence of such disaster in future. Further, they will exploit  the next step to be taken  to bring normalcy  among the victims as early as possible.
 The Japanese experts will visit Colombo under the instructions of the  Japanese’s  Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
